The Fraser Coast is one of the fastest growing regions in Queensland. Located approximately 3 hours drive north of Brisbane, the Fraser Coast is the gateway to the World Heritage listed Fraser Island and the southern region of the Great Barrier Reef. The Fraser Coast is a dynamic region combining the leisure and tourism activities in Hervey Bay with unique Queensland heritage values and major manufacturing and engineering operations in Maryborough. These strengths are further complimented by ‘tree change’ rural lifestyles in Woocoo and Tiaro.
On 15 March, 2008 the Fraser Coast Regional Council was formed, including the amalgamation of the Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Woocoo and Divisions 1 and 2 of Tiaro LGAs.
